New teacher
Mohsen Omidi, born in 1997, is a performer and teacher of handpan (hang drum) and tombak. He began studying tombak in 2014 and started learning handpan in 2021. His teaching approach for hang drum focuses on rigorous, academically grounded, musical instruction. His goal is for students to reach a smooth, pleasing playing flow in the shortest time possible, without confusion and with a correct understanding of technique. His classes move from essential fundamentals — stroke control, dynamics, rhythm, and hand coordination — to more advanced topics and techniques, improvisation, building rhythmic patterns, ensemble playing, and performing engaging pieces from method books using backing tracks. His teaching approach for tombak involves a curated set of exercises and pieces from beginner to professional level, played together with a melodic instrument, so that students strengthen their solo technique while also learning ensemble playing well; as students progress toward a professional level on the instrument, advanced pieces and techniques using both hemispheres of the brain are taught in full. As a teacher, he prioritizes patience, precision, and conveying concepts in the simplest possible way, and tries to design a personalized, measurable path for each student so that their progress is clearly visible.
